ASIA PACIFIC

Built for the property you actually run

We work with boutique hotels and residential estates across Asia Pacific, and with the companies that manage rental portfolios for them. We fix the commercial side of the business and build the software it needs to run. Usually both.

The practice

A 40 key hotel has the same problems as a 400 key hotel

There is no revenue manager and no IT department. There is an owner, and a manager 9 years into the job who keeps a spreadsheet called occupancy FINAL v3 (2).

The firms that serve the 400 key hotel charge more than the 40 key hotel earns, so the small operator works it out alone. That has been true for as long as anyone reading this has been in the business.

WHY WE BUILD

Nobody was ever going to build it for you

Say you run 9 buildings with one van and one driver. The housekeeping schedule has to survive a late checkout on the far side of the site and a 6pm arrival, with the driver clocking off at 4pm. No software company will ever build that. There are not enough businesses shaped like yours to be worth anyone's while.

For 30 years the answer was to buy a product built around someone else's hotel and change how you work to suit it, or pay an agency more than the problem was worth. Most owners took neither and kept doing it by hand.

That changed, and it changed fast. A small single purpose tool now takes weeks and costs less than a year of the labour it removes, so we build them. The scheduler that knows about the van. Last one was an owner statement that handles 2 currencies and 3 ownership splits without anyone opening a spreadsheet.

There is no such thing as a problem that is too bespoke.

Bring us the one everybody told you to live with.

We are not looking for reasons to build things. Where a product already does the job we set it up and train your people. That is most weeks. The first useful thing we do at a new property is cancel a subscription nobody can account for.

Everything here is something we paid for in our own properties first.

Tell us about the property

30 minutes, no slides. If we are not the right answer we will say so on the call.

QUARTERLY NOTE

Every quarter we write up what we have actually seen working, across the properties we advise and the ones we run. What moved a number, and what a regulator changed while nobody was looking. No news roundups.
